If the media says so....it's so.
Here is the Bryan-like thought process.
""Please media....think for me. I don't like thinking. It hurts. It takes time. I have to study. It takes consideration. I don't have time for that. Decide for me. I'd rather have a beer"".
Ready. Fire. Aim.
Amazing stupidity when he says early batspeed eliminates adjustability.
How freaking stupid can one be?
Have you seen anyone more willing to publicly expose his idiocy?
Let's name him something appropriate.....randhasbeen.....soon to be randneverwas.
These two clips show OBVIOUS....GLARING....differences in the swing pattern of Bonds and Harper.
To suggest that they are the same....to suggest both are high level....is the height of idiocy.
If Harper has MLB success with his current swing mechanics, he will be the first, in the history of the game, to hit at a high level while violating the absolutes of the high level pattern.
He is very gifted athletically. His athletic gifts are carrying him at this time.
IMO.....they won't carry him much longer.
In these pitcher view clips....it is very obvious to see the constant overlapping action of Bonds swing....that creates a seamless transition between load and unload....because of his barrel's direction....rearward. He starts it rearward....it goes around an arc....the back section of the arc is loading....yet....unloading also. The HUGE factor that leads to his success is.....BECAUSE of the barrel's initial direction....it is launched rearward....the weight, speed, and direction of that rearward launch....is initially loading....even though it is unloaded. The key is.....as/before it turns from the back side of the rearward arc....to the front section.....it can still be adjusted to pitch location.....AND.....it can still be aborted.
It is also quite obvious that Harper's load/unload is two distinct moves. Take it back....hold it.....unload it forward. When you have TWO MOVES you have to time both moves. You have to get back adequately......both in intensity and in time....and....you then have to take it forward....in both intensity and time. IMPOSSIBLE TO DO CONSISTENTLY against high level pitching.
Currently....all across MLB....'the book' on Harper is being written. It won't be long until every team and every pitcher in the league knows how....where....to get him out. From that point forward....all he will hit are mistakes.
His current mechanics doom him to be a below average hitter....that has power. And that power will only show up when a pitcher is struggling....and makes a mistake.....or when he guesses right.
The numbers that come out of that kind of swing....are journeyman numbers. They are not Allstar quality. They are FAR from Hall of Fame numbers.
I believe the Nationals are expecting much more than that.
He will be Jason Heyward within 2 years. He will struggle offensively. He will hustle. He will play good defense. He will stay in the lineup because of the financial commitment the Nationals made to him....and because of their hope that he will come around.
But he never will....unless/until he changes his swing.
Over 100 years of baseball proves this.
