Spine Motion?.....In The High Level Swing?.....Hmmmmm
When compared to the hip line versus shoulder line teaching of separation....Miyahira's demonstration above is a positive step forward.
However....it fails to 'get there'.
His demo 'works'....when you do not need suddenness. His finding is based on his golf research....his study of the golf swing. The golf swing is a two-legged two hip swing....that one can execute without time pressure.
I've used Miyahira's demo before. It does help get people into the proper ballpark. But to complete your understanding of the high level pattern you have to understand that a twisted spine that is to untwist at launch....is a long swing. A twisted spine is, in fact, counter rotation. AND....it must be centered over two legs and two hips. The high level swing is one-legged....with stretch around the rear leg. And that totally changes the picture. The spine doesn't twist like shown in the clip when you are one-legged. And you must be one-legged to get the suddenness out of the SnF. The twisting of the spine by muscles that twist the spine....doesn't happen. If it does....you will have a long swing.
What happens is....the muscles on the REAR BACK SIDE OF THE TORSO.....pull rearward....away from the spine....to stretch the FASCIA.....that attaches the muscle to the spine. The spine actually RESISTS being twisted. And as the muscles pull back against the resisting spine the FASCIA is stretched.
The spine CAN NOT BE....the axis of rotation....in the high level swing. A twisted spine would want to untwist. And the untwisting of the SPINE....will not distribute the energy properly to the forearms and then to the barrel. The untwisting of the spine will deliver energy 'out the shoulders'....then down the length of the bat. THAT....is a long swing.
The launch of the high level swing is not an untwisting of the spine....but it is the lateral tilt of the spine....the pinwheel....not the merry go round.
These clips do not show a twisting of the spine....but instead a scrunching...that brings the hand pivot point to the rear hip pivot point.

It is felt on a line from the scap/spine junction to the rear hip socket. The SCIP. The spine would not be on that line.....but the spine would be the 'line' that the fascia is pulled against.
BOTH the hip/back/scap AND the leg....WORK. They both WORK....to defeat the other. Their WORK to balances the system.
Unless the leg is WORKING....you won't get sat.
